President Zhang Jixiong Exchanges Views with the SEM Leadership Team

On the afternoon of March 9, Zhang Jixiong, President of CUMT, visited SEM for a research visit and work guidance. Officials from the President’s Office, the Development Planning Department, the Institute of Science and Technology Research, the Office of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the Discipline Development Office accompanied the visit. Members of the SEM leadership team attended the meeting, which was chaired by Li Xinchun, Party Secretary of the School.
President Zhang Jixiong fully affirmed the achievements made by the School in recent years. He noted that as an important base for discipline development and talent cultivation, SEM has a strong tradition and solid development foundation. In recent years, the School has aligned closely with the university’s strategic goals, identified its positioning, and achieved breakthroughs in several areas, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and commitment.
Regarding the advancement of current key tasks, President Zhang emphasized three priorities. First, the School should focus firmly on strategic planning and long-term development, taking advantage of the formulation of the university’s 15th Five-Year Plan to develop a scientific and forward-looking development strategy that reflects SEM’s disciplinary strengths. Second, the School should focus on implementation, concentrating efforts on core tasks such as discipline development, talent recruitment and cultivation, research innovation, and talent training, while clarifying responsibilities and ensuring effective execution. Third, the School should focus on its core mission, strengthening unity and consolidating its foundation by upholding moral education and talent cultivation as the fundamental task, deepening educational and teaching reforms, innovating training models, and reinforcing the central role of disciplinary development while promoting interdisciplinary integration.
During the meeting, Party Secretary Li Xinchun extended a warm welcome to President Zhang and the accompanying delegation. Ding Zhihua, Dean of SEM, presented a comprehensive report covering the School’s basic profile, development goals, existing challenges, and proposed measures. Participants also engaged in in-depth discussions on issues including development strategy, faculty development, program construction, talent cultivation, disciplinary directions, and scientific research. The visiting leaders provided detailed responses and constructive guidance on the issues raised.
The SEM leadership team stated that it will carefully study and implement President Zhang’s guidance, align its actions with the university’s strategic decisions, and follow the principles of “focusing on planning, focusing on tasks, and focusing on core priorities.” By refining work plans, strengthening implementation, addressing development gaps, and consolidating distinctive strengths, the School will continue to unite faculty and students in advancing high-quality development.
