Introduction

The School of Economics and Management (SEM) of China University of Mining and Technology was founded in 1953. In 1981, it opened a master's program in management engineering, and in 1986, it opened a doctoral program in management engineering. In 1998, a post-doctoral research program was set up in the discipline of management science and engineering. In 2002, management science and engineering became the key disciplines in Jiangsu Province. In 2018, management science and engineering became an advantage discipline in Jiangsu Province. The school now has three first-class disciplines: management science and engineering, business administration, and applied economy. Among them, management science and engineering were approved for a doctoral program in 1986 (the first batch of doctoral programs by subject in East China), and a postdoctoral research program was opened in 1998. In the fifth round of national discipline evaluation results published in 2022, it was awarded B+ and was successively approved as the first batch of key disciplines and advantage disciplines in Jiangsu Province. It has four first-class disciplines of management science and engineering, business administration, applied economics and statistics, and eight second-level discipline master programs such as management science and engineering, enterprise management, technical economy and management, accounting, finance, industrial economics, quantitative economics, and international trade. It has four professional master programs, including a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc) Program, Masters in Engineering Management (MEM), and Asset Appraisal, as well as the MBA program of China-Canada cooperation in running schools. The MBA program passed AMBA certification for the first time in March 2020. At present, the school has eight undergraduate disciplines, including big data management and application, e-commerce, business administration, international economy and trade, finance, accounting, human resource management, and marketing. Among them, there are 4 national first-class undergraduate programs (e-commerce, accounting, human resource management, and marketing) and 2 first-class undergraduate programs (international economy and trade, finance) in Jiangsu Province. Accounting is also a national characteristic major and a key first-level discipline of business administration in Jiangsu Province, while marketing is a characteristic major in Jiangsu Province.

The School has four provincial academic platforms, including the Energy Economy and Management Research Base of Jiangsu Philosophy and Social Science Planning Office, the International Energy Policy Research Center of Jiangsu Education Department, the Jiangsu Safety Management Research Center, and the Jiangsu Safety Science and Emergency Management Research Center, and three school-level think tanks and seven school-level research centers, including the Safety Technology and Management-Green Safety Management and Policy Science Think Tank, Energy Mining Economy and Management Think Tank, and Carbon Neutrality and Energy Strategy Think Tank.

SEM has 154 faculty members and 128 full-time faculties, including 32 professors and 62 associate professors, and 112 full-time faculties with doctoral degrees, accounting for 87.5%. SEM has also hired more than 30 well-known part-time professors, visiting professors, and distinguished professors at home and abroad. The School has seven departments, including Big Data Management and Applied Science Department, Accounting Department, Organization and Behavioral Science Department, Marketing Science Department, E-commerce and Data Science Department, Finance Department, and Economics Department. At the end of 2022, SEM has 2,133 full-time undergraduates, 1,326 master and doctoral students, and 81 international students.
