Faculty and Students Evacuate the Building in an Orderly Manner

Ran Hongtao, Associate Dean of SEM, Emphasizes the Importance of Campus Safety

Security Office Staff Demonstrate the Proper Use of Fire Extinguishers

Faculty and Students Practice Using Firefighting Equipment
To strengthen fire safety awareness and enhance the ability of faculty and students to respond to emergencies, SEM jointly organized a fire evacuation drill and firefighting skills training with the university’s Security Office on the afternoon of November 18.
At exactly 4:00 p.m., the drill officially began with the sudden sound of a simulated fire alarm. Artificial smoke was released simultaneously on the first through fifth floors of the building, quickly filling the corridors and creating a realistic emergency scenario. After hearing the alarm, faculty members, administrative staff, and students responded immediately, following the emergency evacuation plan. Using wet towels or clothing to cover their noses and mouths, participants lowered their posture and moved quickly and orderly along the designated evacuation routes to exit the building.
The entire evacuation process was well-organized, efficient, and orderly, with all participants safely reaching the designated assembly area within the planned time.
After the evacuation exercise, the event moved to the second phase: fire safety education and hands-on training. Ran Hongtao, Associate Dean of SEM, commended the calm and organized response demonstrated by faculty and students during the drill. He emphasized the importance of conducting regular fire safety exercises and highlighted the principle of “life first, safety above all.” He encouraged all members of the School community to remain vigilant about safety, master fire evacuation techniques, and become familiar with the proper use of firefighting equipment in order to maintain a safe and stable campus environment.
During the practical training session, professional staff from the university’s Security Office demonstrated the correct use of fire extinguishers, explaining the key operational steps: “lift, pull, aim, and press.” Under their guidance, faculty members and students actively participated in hands-on practice, using fire extinguishers to put out simulated initial fires. The combination of theoretical instruction and practical experience helped participants overcome fear of fire emergencies and gain confidence in using firefighting equipment.
The drill was carefully organized, efficiently coordinated, and highly practical, transforming abstract safety knowledge into realistic training. It significantly enhanced the fire safety awareness and emergency response capabilities of SEM faculty and students, providing a solid foundation for building a safe and harmonious campus environment.
