SEM Holds Orientation Activities for the 2025 Cohort of Graduate Students

At the beginning of the new semester in September 2025, the School of Economics and Management organized a series of orientation activities for its incoming graduate students. On September 1, the 2025 graduate cohort gathered in four classrooms of the Yifu Building on the Wenchang Campus to watch five themed lectures organized by the Graduate School for all new graduate students.

On September 5, the School brought together over 270 full-time graduate students of the 2025 cohort for an orientation session in Room C202 of Building 2 on the Nanhu Campus. More than 20 part-time master’s students and doctoral candidates (with equivalent academic qualifications) joined the event online. The orientation featured three themed sessions delivered by Wang Delu, Vice Dean of the School of Economics and Management; Zhang Xiaoqiang, Director of the Experimental Center; and Zhou Hongxiao, Director of the Student Affairs Office. Staff from the Graduate and Research Office as well as all part-time and full-time counselors for the 2025 graduate cohort also attended the session.

Vice Dean Wang Delu extended a warm welcome to all the new graduate students and provided a brief overview of the School’s history, disciplines, research platforms, and academic strengths. He gave a detailed explanation of key university and school regulations on graduate education, quality assurance of theses and dissertations, and the graduate funding system. Highlighting critical milestones in graduate training, he reminded students that graduate study differs significantly from undergraduate education. He urged students to make early plans for their academic and research lives under the guidance of their supervisors, uphold academic integrity, and foster a scholarly atmosphere characterized by truth-seeking, teamwork, and openness. Wang encouraged the new students to quickly adapt to their new roles, cherish the valuable time of graduate study, strive for progress, achieve personal growth, and contribute to the School’s development.

Director Zhang Xiaoqiang gave a brief introduction to the School’s Experimental Center and its achievements. He emphasized the importance of laboratory safety by citing real accident cases and introduced the School’s data platforms and commonly used databases.

Director Zhou Hongxiao first introduced the graduate counselor team and elaborated on their critical role in ideological and political education and value guidance. She reminded students to remain vigilant about personal, property, and information security in their daily lives, to strictly follow school and school regulations, and to face challenges in study and research with a positive and healthy mindset, thereby making their graduate years fulfilling and meaningful.

Through a week of multiple lectures and concentrated orientation activities, the 2025 cohort gained an initial understanding of graduate study and life. Beginning in September, the School will further support new students’ transition by organizing visits to the University History Museum, introductory Party courses for new graduate students, and discipline-specific orientation sessions, helping them to smoothly embark on their academic and research journey.
