On May 21, SEM held a comprehensive teaching skills training session aimed at helping newly recruited faculty members enhance their teaching competencies and better adapt to instructional responsibilities. Vice Dean Prof. Jiang Hongyan, Prof. Cheng Zhihong, a renowned teaching expert from the School of Mechatronics and a Jiangsu Provincial Distinguished Teacher, Ms. Zheng Aihua, teaching supervisor at the School of Economics and Management, along with Ms. Liu Ran, Director of the Teaching Office, Ms. Wu Qiong, Teaching Secretary, and over 30 early-career teachers who joined the School in the past three years attended the event.
Prof. Jiang Hongyan chaired the session. She first extended sincere gratitude to Prof. Cheng and Ms. Zheng for taking time out of their busy schedules to support the training, and highly commended the enthusiasm of the new faculty members for their active participation.
Following the opening remarks, Ms. Wu Qiong and Ms. Liu Ran provided a detailed introduction to the university's policies and procedures related to undergraduate teaching. They shared practical insights into common challenges faced during classroom teaching and offered effective strategies for addressing them.
Prof. Cheng Zhihong then delivered an in-depth lecture focused on issues commonly encountered by new teachers. Drawing from her extensive teaching experience and research achievements, she offered practical guidance on key topics such as how to apply for teaching reform projects and how to effectively deliver a course. The new faculty members seized this valuable opportunity to engage in dynamic exchanges with the experts, asking questions and sharing experiences. The interactive discussions created a vibrant and collegial atmosphere.

At the conclusion of the session, Prof. Jiang Hongyan delivered a comprehensive summary. She emphasized that undergraduate teaching forms the foundation of a new teacher’s academic journey and encouraged all participants to apply the insights gained from the training to their own teaching practices. She expressed confidence that the training would help new faculty gain a deeper understanding of undergraduate education and guide them in their future teaching endeavors.
This training session not only provided a valuable platform for learning and exchange but also laid a solid foundation for the continued professional growth of the new faculty. With the support and guidance of experienced experts, these young educators are expected to thrive and bring new vitality to the School’s teaching mission.
