To effectively and efficiently advance the application process for the 2025 National Natural Science Foundation (NSF) and National Social Science Foundation (SSF) and to enhance the quality of project proposals, the School of Economics and Management hosted a topic demonstration meeting on October 24, 2024.

The meeting invited distinguished experts, including Professor Huang Lucheng from Beijing University of Technology, Professor Hao Yu from Beijing Institute of Technology, Professor Xu Jun from Jiangsu Normal University, former President of China University of Mining and Technology Professor Song Xuefeng, and Professors Li Xinchun, Zhang Lei, Sun Ziyuan, Wang Zhining, and Mi Lingyun from the school, to provide guidance on topic selection. Nearly 30 faculty members presented their proposed project topics in detail. The meeting was chaired by Vice Dean Wang Delu.

Vice Dean Wang first outlined the school’s comprehensive work plan for the 2025 NSF and SSF application guidance. Since 2023, the school has organized guidance sessions in three phases for these applications. The primary goal of this topic demonstration meeting was to conduct targeted assessments and provide precise guidance on whether applicants’ topics align with academic frontiers, address national strategic needs, focus on critical scientific issues, and match their prior research foundations.

The NSF topic demonstration meeting was divided into two sessions, morning and afternoon, based on the applicants’ research directions. Twenty-two young faculty members successively reported on the basis of their topics, research significance, key scientific issues, and content outlines. Participating experts provided tailored suggestions for revisions and engaged in in-depth discussions with applicants, addressing their challenges in the topic selection process and sharing valuable insights.

On the same morning, at 9:00 AM, six young faculty members planning to apply for the SSF youth projects presented their preliminary ideas on research background, value, and frameworks. Experts shared their experiences regarding the characteristics of SSF topics, writing paradigms, and logical structuring of research content, offering constructive feedback.

During the meeting, experts provided detailed guidance from multiple perspectives, breaking down each application and offering actionable advice. This provided strong direction for applicants’ future research work.

The school plans to hold a second-round experience-sharing session and proposal-writing workshop in mid-December to further enhance the quality of young faculty members’ project proposals and research capabilities. These efforts aim to lay a solid foundation for the school’s 2025 NSF and SSF applications.
