Professor Song Xuefeng, Former President of CUMT, Provides Feedback

Vice Dean Jiang Hongyan of SEM Hosts the Event
On the morning of September 29, SEM held a Young Faculty Growth Forum in B503, focusing on the theme "Experience Sharing on National Natural Science Foundation (NSFC) Application". The forum invited four young faculty members who were approved for the 2024 NSFC to share their experiences in project application. Professor Song Xuefeng, former President of China University of Mining and Technology, attended the forum, and Vice Dean Jiang Hongyan hosted the event.
The four young faculty members shared their insights one by one. Professor Jiang Luyuan shared his overall approach to writing project proposals and application experience, advising participants to view the application process as part of a long-term research journey, maintaining a positive and calm mindset. Professor Jiang Xin provided a comprehensive introduction to the entire process of applying for the NSFC, offering practical suggestions for improving proposal quality and success rates. Professor Wang Yadong discussed the entire project application process from the aspects of project background, topic selection, proposal writing, and format. He also shared resources and books that could help in the application process. Professor Wu Changsong shared his experience in writing a suitable NSFC youth project proposal, focusing on how to tailor the writing to one’s own strengths.

Professor Song Xuefeng fully acknowledged the excellent presentations of the four teachers. He provided detailed feedback on each presentation, addressing the questions and concerns raised by the teachers. From the perspective of an expert reviewer, Professor Song systematically shared key points and considerations for applying for NSFC projects. He encouraged faculty members to remain confident, learn from experience, and actively apply for funding. He also expressed his commitment to continuing to support the growth of young faculty members in the future, providing guidance for their professional development and improving their research and teaching abilities.
The event was a great success, attracting many young faculty members, with lively discussions taking place on-site. Many attendees expressed that they gained valuable insights and would actively engage in future project applications. The School of Economics and Management plans to make such Young Faculty Forums a regular event, creating a platform for teaching and research exchange and providing comprehensive support for the growth of young faculty.
