On September 22, 2024, the East China Region Qualifiers of the 10th National Management Case Elite Competition kicked off at Jiangnan University, located by the beautiful Taihu Lake. The MBA teams from SEM at CUMT, composed of students from the 2022 and 2023 cohorts, participated in the competition and won the “Best Newcomer Award.” The teams were guided by professors Gong Huang, Wang Huaqing, Yao Weikun, and Yang Lei.

The competition was organized by the National MBA Education Steering Committee, the China Management Case Sharing Center, and the Management Case Research Committee of the China Management Modernization Research Association, with Jiangnan University hosting the East China Region Qualifiers. A total of 15 elite teams from nine universities, including Dalian University of Technology, East China Normal University, Jiangnan University, China University of Mining and Technology, Yangzhou University, Anhui University of Finance and Economics, Inner Mongolia University, Liaoning Petrochemical University, and Shenyang University of Technology, gathered to compete in this intellectual case analysis contest.
The competition focused on the case study “Wa Jin ‘New’ Weaving: How West Meng Impression Helps Minority BoP Achieve Inclusive Innovation.” During the preparation phase, the two SEM teams conducted an in-depth, multi-dimensional analysis of the case within the 60-hour countdown to the competition. The team members collaborated closely, working tirelessly through nights to rehearse and explore the essence of the management case, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and individual skills.
During the on-site presentation, SEM’s teams delivered compelling presentations on the case and responded confidently to questions from competitors, the audience, and judges, showcasing their remarkable adaptability and skills. After intense competition, both SEM MBA teams were awarded the "Best Newcomer Award."
Case teaching is a crucial component of MBA education and has received strong support from the School of Economics and Management and the MBA Education Center. Since July, the center has carefully selected and assembled a team of qualified instructors, chosen several case studies from different fields, and scientifically simulated the competition process. Over two months of systematic training, the students actively prepared for the competition. SEM has always emphasized case teaching since the establishment of the MBA program, and in recent years has actively organized MBA students to participate in major domestic case competitions.
