Vice Party Secretary Sun Yunxiao Hosts the Ceremony
In the golden autumn of September, with the cool breeze of fall, the School of Economics and Management at China University of Mining and Technology held its 2024 Freshman Opening Ceremony at Siyuan Square at 7:30 AM on September 3. The ceremony was attended by Party Secretary Li Xinchun, Dean Ding Zhihua, Vice Deans Jiang Hongyan and Wang Delu, and hosted by Vice Party Secretary Sun Yunxiao.
Dean Ding Zhihua delivered a speech during the ceremony, warmly welcoming and congratulating the new students of 2024 on behalf of the school. He provided a detailed introduction to the school's history, faculty, and academic development. He also shared three important hopes for the freshmen:
1. Stay True to Your Dreams: Set high goals for your life and integrate your personal dreams into the cause of the Party and the people, becoming a new generation with a grand vision and mission.
2. Build a Strong Academic Foundation: Study diligently, apply knowledge in practice, and continually improve yourself to become a well-rounded individual.
3. Be Courageous in Innovation and Progress: Be a trailblazer, constantly breaking new ground, and pursue excellence as a new generation with a drive for success.
He urged students to uphold the university’s motto, “Respect Virtue and Pursue Learning,” to have lofty aspirations, set clear goals, practice diligently, strive hard, learn and think actively, and work towards a bright future through dedication and effort.
Young teacher representative Liu Bei shared her experiences and offered advice and expectations for the new students: "Take on the mission with firm beliefs, pursue your dreams with youthful vigor, and face the future with pragmatic efforts. Always remember to think rationally and stay grounded, especially in the face of change." She wished the students to shine brightly on the stage of youth while remaining grounded and continue discovering better versions of themselves throughout their university lives.
Li Jiawen, the student deputy secretary of the Youth League and president of the student union, and Sun Manhang, president of the graduate student union, both spoke on behalf of current students, encouraging the freshmen to respect their teachers, engage in learning, be daring and innovative, and continuously challenge themselves in practice on the vast stage of university life.
Freshman representatives Bai Qinyi (undergraduate student in Business Administration), Deng Jiaxin (master's student in Accounting), and Wang Jingzhi (doctoral student in Management Science and Engineering) spoke on behalf of the new students. They expressed their pride in becoming members of China University of Mining and Technology and promised to set clear goals, strengthen their foundation, enhance their skills, cultivate integrity, maintain a positive attitude, and continue to write brilliant chapters as youth of the university.
Vice Party Secretary Sun Yunxiao gave his best wishes to the new students, urging them to remember their teachers' guidance, remain focused on the greater good of the nation, aim high, stay grounded, study diligently, innovate, and keep up with the times. He encouraged them to grow into the new generation of economics and management professionals and repay their alma mater and society with their actions.
The ceremony concluded with the powerful and uplifting anthem of the university. Faculty and staff from various departments, academic leaders, graduate advisors, class advisors, and all the new students of the 2024 cohort participated in the ceremony.
