To comprehensively enhance the teaching, research, and overall competence of key faculty members, the School of Economics and Management organized a week-long summer training program from July 13 to 19 at the Red Education and Culture Training Center in Jinggangshan, Jiangxi. The training covered topics including ideological and political education, teaching ability, and research capabilities. Over 40 faculty members, including mid-career and young teachers and administrative staff, participated in the program.
On the morning of July 14, the opening ceremony was attended by Li Xinchun, the Party Secretary of the School, You Jiuru, Director of the Jinggangshan Red Education and Culture Training Center, and Jiang Hongyan, Vice Dean of the School. Director You Jiuru extended a warm welcome to the participants and provided an introduction to the training center. Party Secretary Li Xinchun expressed gratitude to the leaders and instructors of the center for hosting the program and hoped that the young teachers would carefully study the Jinggangshan spirit and the training content, enhance their research capabilities, and contribute to the development of the school. Vice Dean Jiang Hongyan emphasized the importance of discipline and safety during the training, urging everyone to follow the rules, take responsibility for their learning, and make the most of this valuable opportunity to improve their overall competencies.
In the Ideological and Political Education module, Professor Chen from the Jinggangshan Cadre Academy gave a lecture titled "The Jinggangshan Struggle and the Jinggangshan Spirit." This lecture helped teachers gain a deeper understanding of the heroic struggles of revolutionary predecessors during the Jinggangshan movement. Additionally, the participants visited various historical sites within the Jinggangshan Red Education Base, experiencing firsthand the hardships faced by revolutionary pioneers and gaining a stronger sense of commitment to educating students for the Party and the country.
In the Teaching Ability Enhancement module, Professor Yang Hongtao from Huaqiao University, a national-level teaching expert, provided insights into course ideological education, good practices for ideological teaching in the classroom, and how to avoid ineffective teaching methods. Professor Zhu Fei used the example of a nationally recognized first-class course he led to explain how to teach effectively in an information-rich environment and how to make a course one that students love and that genuinely enhances their abilities. Associate Professor Liao Xiaohui shared her experiences from participating in the National Teaching Innovation Competition, offering practical advice on improving teaching quality and excelling in teaching competitions. The training also included evening sessions where faculty members participating in teaching innovation competitions exchanged experiences with experts.
In the Research Capability Enhancement module, Professor Huang Lucheng from Beijing University of Technology and Professor Hao Yu from Beijing Institute of Technology shared their experiences and insights on applying for national social science and natural science research funding. Their lectures, "The Characteristics, Topic Selection, and Application of the National Social Science Fund" and "Accumulating Experience and Applying with Care: Insights into the Natural Science Fund Application," provided valuable guidance on selecting research topics and the application process. The young teachers actively consulted the experts and expressed that the lectures would greatly enhance their ability to apply for research funding.
Professor Wang Bangjun also gave a report on "Using AACSB Accreditation to Promote the High-Quality Development of the School of Economics and Management," in which he detailed the preliminary work and achievements made in the school's international accreditation efforts.
During the closing ceremony, Professor Wang Huaqing, Director of the Department of Big Data Management and Application, young teacher Zhang Huailiang, Youth League Secretary Cheng Shuobo, and new faculty member Chu Xu each represented different groups of trainees to share their experiences. All participants expressed that the training had not only provided a profound education in ideals and beliefs but also significantly improved their teaching and research skills. They also expressed their commitment to upholding professional ethics and becoming dedicated educators. Finally, Dean Ding Zhihua emphasized three key points: First, improve political awareness by learning the Jinggangshan Spirit, which is a cornerstone of the Chinese Communist Party's spiritual heritage, strengthening ideological foundations, and reaffirming faith in the Party. Second, enhance professional capabilities through expert-led teaching and research guidance, applying what is learned to improve teaching quality and research innovation. Third, embody the Jinggangshan Spirit by integrating its core values of "daring to innovate and striving for success" with the school’s development goals, fostering a strong sense of mission and responsibility for "moral education," and contributing to the construction of a world-class School of Economics and Management with unique energy and resources characteristics.
