In order to further strengthen students’ understanding of the current employment situation for graduate students, enhance their employment awareness, and improve their competitiveness, the School of Economics and Management held an online Employment Trends and Career Strategy Analysis meeting for the 2025 graduates on the evening of June 11 via Tencent Meeting. Graduate counselors Yang Shiyong, Gu Yanyan, Liu Heng, and Chen Hongwei, along with all the 2025 graduates, attended the meeting.
First, counselor Yang Shiyong introduced the employment data for graduate students from 2018 to 2024 in the school, focusing on the proportions of graduates working in four major sectors: government agencies, public institutions, state-owned enterprises, and other private enterprises. He discussed the changes in these proportions and the reasons behind these trends, the entry requirements for each sector, and why graduates tend to choose these sectors. Yang also conducted a case study based on the employment experiences of three representative graduates from recent years, helping students clarify their employment goals, career strategies, and how to avoid potential employment risks.
Based on the data and case analysis, Yang proposed several career strategies for the 2025 graduates, including:
1. Considering multiple directions, cities, industries, and approaches when looking for a job;
2. Choosing positions that allow graduates to leverage their strengths;
3. Focusing on pragmatic, down-to-earth work practices for long-term success.
Next, counselor Gu Yanyan addressed several key issues related to the 2025 graduates' employment process, including the timeline for employment, how to fill out the graduate employment recommendation form, the key points for signing employment contracts, issues regarding the identity and social insurance status of fresh graduates, sources for employment information, and questions regarding civil service exams. She also offered guidance on how to adjust to the psychological pressures of job hunting.
The successful organization of this career strategy meeting enabled the 2025 graduate students to fully understand the employment landscape before graduation, grasp career decision-making skills, make accurate self-assessments, and develop a positive attitude toward employment. This preparation will help them in their pursuit of ideal jobs and set a solid foundation for their future careers.
