On March 14, the School of Economics and Management convened a discussion on the 2024 Undergraduate Curriculum Plan in Room B503. The meeting focused on the “Guidelines for the 2024 Undergraduate Curriculum Plan of China University of Mining and Technology (Draft for Comments)” issued by the Academic Affairs Office. Participants included Dean Ding Zhihua, Vice Dean Jiang Hongyan, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office Shi Liwei, instructors from the Teaching Research and Reform Center (Jiang Juan and Feng Yuan), and department heads and deputy heads from the School.

The meeting was chaired by Vice Dean Jiang Hongyan, who expressed gratitude to Deputy Director Shi for his participation. Dean Ding Zhihua began by affirming the guiding principles outlined in the draft guidelines, emphasizing the importance of adapting the 2024 curriculum to align with trends in cultivating digitally intelligent talent. He expressed hope that the new curriculum plan would foster students with “a solid foundation, strong capabilities, and high-quality attributes,” in line with the School’s educational objectives.

Following his remarks, department heads took turns sharing insights. They discussed challenges encountered during the implementation of the 2020 curriculum plan and proposed approaches for cultivating high-caliber talent in the current educational context. Key topics included international collaboration programs, dual-degree interdisciplinary talent development models, and experimental classes in economics and management. Participants stressed the need for the guidelines to incorporate input from professional advisory committees and allow for greater autonomy in designing course modules, credit structures, and other aspects of the curriculum.

Deputy Director Shi Liwei addressed areas of concern raised by faculty, providing clarifications from the perspective of the Academic Affairs Office. He assured attendees that the university would carefully consider their feedback and refine the guidelines accordingly.

In her concluding remarks, Vice Dean Jiang underscored the importance the School places on undergraduate education. She noted that curriculum design forms the foundation for high-quality student development. Given the tight schedule and demanding requirements for the 2024 curriculum plan, Jiang urged each department to conduct thorough research and discussions to ensure the successful completion of the project.
