To enhance the development level of our disciplines and programs, and to scientifically assess the national trends in discipline and program development, our School held an exchange seminar on the Discipline Development Monitoring Platform on the morning of September 9. Ms. Zhang Huifen, Senior Project Consultant from Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, was invited to conduct the training. Dean Ding Zhihua, Associate Dean in charge of discipline work Jiang Hongyan, heads of first-level disciplines, and department chairs attended the meeting.
At the meeting, each discipline first reported on its indicator status and issues encountered in data submission. Afterwards, Ms. Zhang Huifen gave a systematic interpretation of the evaluation system of Shanghai Ranking’s China University Discipline and Program Rankings, clarifying the weights of various indicators and the logic of data collection. She emphasized the importance of key observation points such as high-level talents, high-quality projects/papers, program support for disciplines, graduate employment, and high-level teaching achievements in evaluating disciplines and programs.
She then conducted an in-depth analysis of the School’s three first-level disciplines and seven undergraduate programs, benchmarking against national and provincial universities. Through this analysis, she precisely identified the strengths and weaknesses in discipline and program development. Participants engaged in lively discussions around core issues such as improving ranking positions and optimizing discipline competitiveness.
Dean Ding Zhihua expressed gratitude to Ms. Zhang for her insights. In his summary, he pointed out that ShanghaiRanking, as a higher education evaluation brand with broad influence, provides a data system that serves as an important reference for discipline diagnosis. This exchange offered a clear direction for the development of the School’s disciplines and programs. He also made concrete arrangements for the collection and submission of system data to ensure accuracy and timeliness, providing a solid guarantee for discipline enhancement and high-quality development.
