To enhance teaching quality and promote teaching innovation, on September 3 the School of Economics and Management held the selection round for the 28th China University of Mining and Technology Teaching Competition in Room B408. Organized by the Undergraduate Teaching Management Office, the competition aimed to provide a platform for teachers to showcase their teaching and exchange ideas, thereby raising overall teaching standards.

The event invited a distinguished panel of judges, including Professor Zhang Shubi, Head of the University’s Undergraduate Teaching Supervision Group, along with Professors Wang Xiangting, Cheng Zhihong, Bian Heping, and Zhou Shengwu. Their participation ensured the professionalism and fairness of the competition. Before the contest, Vice Dean Professor Jiang Hongyan delivered a speech, noting that the teaching competition is an important opportunity to update teaching concepts and methods. She encouraged participating teachers to use the competition as a means to improve teaching quality and, in turn, talent cultivation. Professor Jiang also expressed her hope that those recommended to advance to the university-level competition would achieve excellent results and bring honor to the School. In addition, several young faculty members attended the event to observe and learn from their colleagues’ teaching experiences.

The competition included two tracks: Classroom Teaching and Teaching Innovation. Based on departmental recommendations, nine teachers participated, covering courses such as Economic Law, Financial Data Analysis, and Labor Economics. During the contest, the participants demonstrated their solid teaching fundamentals and distinctive personal styles. The judges provided objective and comprehensive feedback on aspects including content design and selection, teaching methods, language delivery, and classroom presence. They praised the strengths of the teachers, such as rich content and innovative approaches, while also pointing out areas for improvement, such as insufficient depth in certain topics and the need for better classroom interaction design. Judges further encouraged teachers to reflect on their experiences, conduct deeper research into teaching practices, and continuously raise their teaching standards.

After intense competition, six teachers were selected to advance to the university-level contest. This event not only provided participants with a platform to demonstrate their teaching ability but also served as a comprehensive assessment of fundamentals, course design, methods, classroom management, and innovation. Through the competition, teachers were able to refine course content, optimize design, and enhance both course quality and teaching effectiveness. Both participants and observers noted that the experience was highly rewarding, and the competition served as an effective model and driver for raising classroom teaching standards. Moving forward, the School will continue to leverage the momentum of this event to promote teaching innovation and further strengthen teaching quality, laying a solid foundation for cultivating outstanding talent.
