On July 2, the final round of the 27th Teaching Competition of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) was successfully held at the Boxue Lecture Hall. After a series of intense contests and the grand final for the top prize, faculty members from the School of Economics and Management (SEM) once again achieved remarkable results:
Hou Xiaoran received the Special Prize,
Chen Shaojun and Tan Xueping won the First Prize,
Dai Xinying was awarded the Second Prize,
SEM was also honored with the Excellent Organization Award.
The School of Economics and Management consistently places undergraduate teaching at the core of its mission and regards teaching competitions as a strategic tool to enhance teaching quality and promote faculty development. Recognizing the vital role such competitions play in faculty building and instructional improvement, the School has actively encouraged front-line teachers to strive for excellence through a competition-driven approach.
Adhering to the philosophy of "teaching through competition" and "training through competition", the School has vigorously promoted and supported participation in various teaching contests. These competitions serve as a platform to inspire faculty members—especially young instructors—to update educational philosophies, deeply engage with course content, and master modern teaching methodologies, making classroom instruction more engaging and effective.
For this year’s university-level competition, SEM conducted a thorough internal selection process. Each department recommended outstanding teachers to participate in school-level trials. The School then invited experienced educators and university/college-level teaching supervisors as judges. Participants received comprehensive guidance in three major areas: teaching design, classroom instruction, and teaching reflection. Experts offered one-on-one coaching on presentation strategies and key preparation points.
In recent years, SEM teachers have actively engaged in classroom reform and innovation, leading to significant improvements in teaching ability and instructional quality. Their outstanding performance in university-wide and external teaching competitions has become a strong testament to this progress.
Looking ahead, SEM will continue to advance its competition-driven faculty development model, enhance organizational mechanisms, and broaden the scope and depth of participation. The School remains committed to providing more platforms for faculty to grow and shine, laying a solid foundation for nurturing high-quality economic and management talents with innovation and practical capabilities, and further elevating the quality of undergraduate education.
