On March 2, the Jiangsu Division of the 2nd National College Student Career Planning Competition — also serving as the 19th Jiangsu Province College Student Career Planning Competition — successfully concluded at Nanjing University of Science and Technology. After intense competition, Zhang Ziwei, a 2021 Marketing major from the School of Economics and Management, earned the Silver Award in the undergraduate employment track.

During the competition, Zhang delivered a presentation titled “Empowering New Retail with Three Core Competencies: Decoding the People-Goods-Place Dynamic in Procurement and Sales.” Her performance stood out for its in-depth industry research, accurate self-assessment, and well-designed career development roadmap. Centered on the competencies of data analysis, operations management, and negotiation, her career plan showcased a clear logic structure, solid data foundation, and compelling delivery. Zhang also demonstrated a strong sense of civic responsibility by aligning personal growth with national development goals. When challenged with professional questions on risk management and industry trends, she responded with confidence and offered practical, forward-thinking solutions — earning high praise from the judges for her well-rounded professional skills.

This year’s competition reached unprecedented scale, attracting 704,487 students from 163 universities. Following preliminary campus rounds and rigorous provincial semifinals, 246 outstanding students advanced to the final round, where they presented career plans in alignment with national strategic areas such as rural revitalization, intelligent manufacturing, and the digital economy — embodying the aspirations and responsibilities of the new generation.

The School of Economics and Management has long regarded career education as a key component of its talent development strategy, in line with the national goal of moral education. Through a three-pronged approach of curriculum-based instruction, competition-based practice, and personalized career guidance, the School has built a multidimensional talent development system. Over the past three years, students from the School have earned one silver and two bronze awards in the provincial competition. Initiatives such as career planning lectures and the collaborative establishment of the “XiaoMa Career Studio” with Golden Finance Group (Gaodun) have helped students align their career paths with national priorities.

Looking ahead, the School will continue to enhance the professionalism and comprehensiveness of its career education, focusing on emerging industries and trends, deepening university-enterprise collaboration, and empowering students to find their path and grow their capabilities — ultimately cultivating innovative, practice-oriented talents for national economic and social development.
