The event took place in the Bo 2-C302 classroom at the South Lake campus, with all first-year graduate students in attendance. The orientation covered various topics, including graduate student training, laboratory safety and management, the soft science resources of the School, and daily student management.

Xie Huilin, from the Graduate Student and Research Office, welcomed the 2024 graduate students to the School of Economics and Management. She encouraged them to quickly adapt to their new environment and make the most of their enriching and exciting graduate life. Ms. Xie introduced the history of the School, its academic disciplines, departments, and key research platforms. She also provided a comprehensive overview of the main characteristics of graduate student training, changes in the updated graduate training program, key training steps, academic ethics and research culture, academic management, and the scholarship and financial assistance system for graduate students. She encouraged the students to make the most of their valuable time in graduate school, engage in active communication with their professors and peers, and take full advantage of the excellent learning conditions and abundant research resources offered by the university and the School to enhance their personal development.

Zhang Xiaoqiang, Director of the Laboratory Center, reviewed the development of the Laboratory Center and the key honors it had received. He highlighted the importance of strictly adhering to laboratory regulations to ensure safety, citing recent laboratory accidents at various universities as examples. He also briefly introduced common laboratory safety signs and how to handle potential emergencies.

Liu Yali, from the Laboratory Center, introduced the School's soft science digital resources and the academic resources currently available, including management-related academic journals, monographs, textbooks, and the master’s and doctoral thesis databases. She also provided a brief introduction to the university’s thesis retrieval system, the Zhonghong Industry Platform, the CCER Economic and Financial Research Database, and the Wind Financial Terminal, explaining how to use these resources effectively.

Yang Shiyong, the graduate student counselor, introduced the members of the graduate counseling team. He emphasized the critical role that counselors play in ideological and political education, value guidance, and overall student well-being. He reminded students to be mindful of their personal safety, property, and privacy, and to maintain a healthy and positive attitude as they integrate into graduate life. He also encouraged students to engage in various social practices, study classic works of Chinese philosophy, and enhance their political literacy and cultural awareness outside of their academic pursuits.

Through this comprehensive orientation, the 2024 cohort of graduate students gained a thorough understanding of the university, the School's environment, and the resources available for both teaching and research. This activity helped students transition smoothly into their new roles, allowing them to better integrate into the academic and social environment of graduate school.
