To thoroughly implement the requirements for high-quality development in higher education in the new era and to advance the “14th Five-Year Plan” for faculty development, the School of Economics and Management at China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) held the 2025 Summer Training Program for Key Faculty on Comprehensive Capacity Enhancement from July 13 to 19 at the Training Center of Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU). The program focused on three core areas—teaching reform, research innovation, and administrative effectiveness—adopting a training model of “theory empowerment + practical cultivation,” aiming to build a high-quality and professional faculty team for the new era. Over 50 key faculty members, including Vice Deans Jiang Hongyan, Wang Delu, and Ran Hongtao, as well as faculty involved in teaching, research, and administrative support, participated in the training.

    Opening Ceremony

On the morning of July 14, the opening ceremony was held at the NPU Training Center. Attending were Li Chunlin, Dean of the School of Continuing Education at NPU; Li Xinchun, Party Secretary of CUMT’s School of Economics and Management; and Vice Dean Jiang Hongyan. The ceremony was chaired by Jiang Hongyan. Dean Li Chunlin extended a warm welcome to the participants and introduced the characteristics of NPU’s educational practices. He reviewed the shared historical roots of the two universities and emphasized that this collaboration was a positive response to national policies on teacher development. He pledged that NPU’s Continuing Education School would ensure training quality and support participants’ growth. Subsequently, Party Secretary Li Xinchun delivered a mobilization speech, outlining the background and objectives of the program and presenting three requirements:

    1. Uphold moral education and explore new models of digital-intelligent teaching.

    2. Focus on research innovation and enhance academic standards.

    3. Refine management effectiveness and optimize operational mechanisms.

He expressed hope that participants would cherish the opportunity, strengthen theoretical grounding, improve their skills, and embody excellent conduct—measuring the effectiveness of training by how well it translates into practice and enhances their ability to guide work with scientific theory.

    Inheriting the Spirit, Strengthening Belief

On July 16, participants traveled to the Liangjiahe Educational Base for field study. Associate Professor Wang Xiaoli from the Yan’an Party School delivered a lecture titled “The Enlightenment of Xi Jinping’s Seven Years as an Educated Youth on the Growth of Young Cadres”. Through vivid case studies, she elaborated on the values of “firm belief, pragmatic responsibility, and service to the people,” guiding faculty to draw strength from the Party’s historical struggles. Participants also visited the Yan’an Revolutionary Memorial Hall, the Yangjialing Revolutionary Site, and the Zaoyuan Revolutionary Site. Viewing valuable artifacts, historical images, and restored scenes, they systematically revisited the CPC’s revolutionary practices in Yan’an, deepening their understanding of the contemporary significance of the “Yan’an Spirit” and reinforcing their mission to educate for the Party and cultivate talent for the nation.

Enhancing Teaching Ability, Building Professional Competence

In the teaching enhancement module, four distinguished national and provincial teaching award winners were invited:

    • Professor Li Hui (NPU) delivered “The Formation and Application of Educational Research and Teaching Achievements”, systematically analyzing how to cultivate award-winning teaching results.

    • Professor Zhou Qulan (Xi’an Jiaotong University) presented “AI-Based Innovation and Practice in Teaching Methods”, showcasing smart teaching tools and proposing a vision of “technology empowerment and human-machine collaboration” for classroom transformation.

    • Professor He Juhou (Shaanxi Normal University) spoke on “AI-Driven Teaching Innovation Design and Practice”, guiding participants on restructuring curricula with AI for personalized learning pathways.

    • Professor Xia Yonglin (Xidian University) delivered “Designing and Building Ideological-Political Elements in Courses”, presenting a dual-track approach of “knowledge delivery and value guidance” and offering strategies for embedding values in teaching.

Participants noted that the training provided forward-looking concepts and practical methods, sparking strong resonance and deep reflection on their teaching practices.

    Strengthening Research Capability

In the research enhancement module, the program focused on challenges faced by young faculty. Professors Shao Shuai (Tongji University) and Jia Ming (NPU), both nationally recognized scholars, provided guidance on applying for the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the National Social Science Foundation of China. During the proposal exchange session, they gave targeted feedback on participants’ draft applications, offering suggestions on innovation, scientific rigor, and clarity of expression. They also engaged in in-depth Q&A, addressing participants’ concerns.

    Improving Administrative Effectiveness

In the administrative training module, Professor Fan Yong (Shaanxi Party School) and Associate Professor Wang Lianghong (former Director of Audit Office, CUMT) delivered sessions on practical writing skills in the digital-intelligent era and on management communication and administrative competence, tailored to administrative staff and Party-affairs faculty.

Closing Ceremony: A New Starting Point

At the closing ceremony, Vice Dean Ran Hongtao chaired the teacher representative sharing session. Six faculty representatives—Lin Aimei, Chen Shaojun, Yang Lei, Jiang Luyuan, Liu Xinyue, and Wang Fujiang—shared insights from the training in terms of teaching innovation, research advancement, and management optimization. Faculty unanimously agreed that the program broadened their academic horizons and deepened their understanding of economics and management in the digital-intelligent era. They expressed determination to transform advanced educational concepts into concrete teaching reforms, apply expert guidance to research projects, and enhance their management skills.

Finally, Dean Ding Zhihua delivered a closing speech, highlighting three key points:

    1. Use training as a mirror to identify where improvement is needed.

    2. Use practice as a ruler to measure the effectiveness of applying knowledge.

    3. Use original aspirations as a compass to ensure responsibility and commitment.
He urged participants to embody three forms of self-awareness:

    • Be steadfast educators for the Party, ensuring every class conveys positive values.

    • Be practitioners cultivating talent for the nation, aligning research with national strategies and industry needs.

    • Be promoters of collaboration, uniting teaching, research, and administrative teams for collective progress.

Dean Ding emphasized that while the program concluded, the journey of capacity-building has no end. Just as Xi’an marked the start of the ancient Silk Road, it now serves as a new starting point for participants—to internalize what they have learned, carry forward their passion for education, and shoulder responsibility for the School’s development, striving together to build a first-class, internationally recognized School of Economics and Management with strengths in energy and resources.

    Conclusion

The successful completion of the 2025 Summer Training Program signifies that the School has entered a new phase of “systematic cultivation and targeted enhancement” in faculty development. Over the intensive week of study, participants achieved remarkable progress in teaching innovation, research advancement, and management optimization. These outcomes will inject new momentum into the School’s growth, accelerate the transformation toward a high-quality faculty team, and provide strong support for building the School into a leading center of economics and management with distinct energy-resource characteristics.
